The work of DevSafe Consulting is based primarily on the 40+ years of aerospace engineering experience of our founder, TJ Candy including 20 years as a system safety professional. TJ retired from GE Aerospace in 2024 and has been a system safety certification instructor at the University of Southern California Viterbi School of Engineering Safety and Security Program since 2021.
During his time at GE, TJ established a development safety system process based on MIL-STD-882 which has been and continues to be used on a number of advanced military gas turbine engine development programs. He subsequently authored the design guide to be used on all future military development safety efforts at GE. In addition, he created a Microsoft Access based Task 106 compliant software tool to facilitate the development safety process.
Recent history has presented a number of high profile safety related issues in the news. It is our observation and contention that many of the problems stem from a long slow erosion of the system safety discipline in the industry from the foundational learnings of the post-WWII ICBM development program. In our consulting services, we seek to help each organization implement a system safety process that is based on this historical foundation with the application of our industry lessons learned conducting multiple system safety programs in the modern era. A process that continues to evolve as new tools and analysis methodologies become available in the industry.
We are a strong advocate for the role of independent, suitably trained and experienced System Safety professionals engaged in oversight of a product-specific system safety efforts which feature proper scaling and engagement with all levels of the organizational structure during the product development process.
